Penn Machine Advantages:

The combination of alloy metallurgy and CBN grinding gives the "Super Gear" the following advantages:

  • Up to 50% longer wear life
  • Extended time between reprofiling
  • Reduced traction motor vibration due to involute wear
  • High tooth surface hardness after reprofiling
  • Time and expense savings for overall reduced operating costs
  • Exclusive 5-Year Limited Wear Warranty (unique to the industry)

Penn Machine Warranties:

Super Gear Warranty

Penn Machine Company will warrant 5 years service before reprofiling is required. Gears are to be reprofiled to industry standards when wear exceeds 0.010" of tooth profile (.020" of tooth thickness at the pitch line).

In one study, the average service life (before reprofiling) of an OEM supplied 62-tooth gear on a Class I railroad was 57 months. If the Super Gear needs reprofiling before the end of the fifth year, PENN MACHINE will reprofile the gear on a "No Charge" basis F.O.B. our Blairsville, PA plant.

Also, Penn Machine Company warrants the Super Gear for 5 years against defect in material and/or workmanship. Gear failure occurring in the first 5 years will be replaced F.O.B. Blairsville, PA after completion of defect analysis.

Replacement, if required, under this warranty would be handled on a pro-rated basis by month from original date of shipment based on actual price at time of claim. The month of shipment will be stamped on every gear, which will be the starting date for this warranty. Any gears on which this warranty is exercised become the property of Penn Machine and shall be made available for Penn's disposition.

Reprofiled Gear Warranty

Penn Machine offers a 12-month warranty on all reprofiled gears (profile only). The warranty commences from the date of installation, or 15 months from the date gear is shipped from Penn Machine (which ever comes first). This warranty does not cover the axle gear material or prior workmanship.
